Applications for the Step Up Youth Volunteer Program will be open again on March 1st! The next cycle of the program will begin in September 2024.
The Step Up Youth Program offers Vancouver Island youth (aged 15-18) the opportunity to volunteer at their local Island Health facilities. Youth volunteers attend weekly shifts and also participate in a monthly career guest speaker series. The volunteer experience is centered on practicing Island Health’s C.A.R.E. values (Courage, Aspire, Respect, and Empathy) while learning about careers in healthcare and developing important leadership skills. This program is perfect for high school aged volunteers who are looking for an exciting and challenging volunteer role in a healthcare environment. Check out our new video to hear from the volunteers themselves!
Scholarship Opportunities
Island Health has established a scholarship fund for current participants of the Step Up Youth Program. By participating in the program, high school graduates are eligible to apply to be considered for the award.
Step Up Youth is also affiliated with the Altruition Scholarship Program, so eligible students can earn a $20 scholarship credit per every volunteer hour earned.
Application
Our website includes more information about the program. The link for the application will be live on March 1st.

Career Fair
Our team will be set up at the SD61 Career Fair in Esquimalt on April 25th – We’d love to connect with you there.
If you think your students would benefit from an in-person info-session, please reach out and I’d be happy to discuss!
